Shri Sai Baba Temple Shirdi

It was originally constructed to place the idol of Lord Krishna but later became the place where the last remains of Sai Baba were laid. This Samadhi Mandir holds great reverence for Baba's devotees from all over the world. Suddenly there was a day when the grocers got fed up of giving free oil to Sai Baba and they refused to oblige him, saying they had no fresh stocks. Sai Baba returned to the masjid empty handed. Sai poured water into the lamps instead of oil and lighted the wicks.

Shani Shingnapur

Situated in Nevasa Taluka in Ahmednagar district, the village is known for its popular temple of Shani, the Hindu god associated with the planet (graha) Saturn. Shani Shingnapur is globally known as the only village where houses do not have doors and locks, and the village remains theft-free. Even the nationalised UCO Bank's branch in the village does not have locks on its doors. There are temples for Shani Deva, where Saturn is personified as a god. Currently, there is this controversy about allowing women to enter a certain temple in Maharashtra, the Shani Shingnapur temple. Very powerful processes are conducted at this temple. Shani temples are mainly used for occult purposes and exorcism.

Samadhi Temple

Sai Baba Samadhi Mandir was built in 1917-1918 by a millionaire from Nagpur and an ardent devotee of Sai Baba, Shreemant Gopalrao Buti. It was originally constructed to place the idol of Lord Krishna but later became the place where the last remains of Sai Baba were laid. Shirdi is a popular religious tourist spot with hordes of visitors thronging this place in huge numbers every day. Shirdi is the abode of the great saint “Sai Baba”. The main attraction of Shirdi is the Sai Baba Samadhi Mandir, situated in the heart of the town of Shirdi. Sai Baba’s body has been laid to eternal rest here. Sai Baba Samadhi Mandir was built in 1917-1918 by a millionaire from Nagpur and an ardent devotee of Sai Baba, Shreemant Gopalrao Buti. This Samadhi Mandir holds great reverence for Baba’s devotees from all over the world. Sai Baba Samadhi Mandir is built beautifully with great detail and exquisite designs and is the major attraction of Shirdi. The samadhi is built with white marble stones. A railing is built around the samadhi embellished with ornamental decorations. The marvelous statue of Sai Baba, which shows him seated on a throne, is made of Italian marble by Balaji Vasant in 1954. This statue is decorated by an open, silver umbrella above it. There is a huge assembly hall in front of the temple which can accommodate up to 600 devotees and a section of the hall showcases various belongings of Sai Baba. The first floor of the temple has collections of photographs and artifacts depicting the life of Sai Baba. The Sai Baba temple is open from 5 AM to 11 PM with devotees queuing up in huge numbers, waiting for their turn to seek the blessings of Sai Baba. On occasions like Guru Purnima, Dussera, and Rama Navami the temple remains open overnight. Every thursday and during festivals, Sai Baba’s photo is taken out from the temple in a palkhi in a colorful procession. A must visit place for devotees of Sai Baba, the Sai Baba Samadhi Mandir gives the followers of Baba a sense of peace and calmness as soon as they enter the premises. One can sense the presence of Sai Baba in spiritual form here and feel closer to the ‘Child of God’.

Gurusthan Sai Mandir

Gurusthan means “place of the Guru”. It is both where Baba spent most of his time when he first came to Shirdi, and also where, according to Baba, the tomb of his own Guru is located by the neem tree. Shirdi, a major pilgrimage center is one of the most visited tourist destinations in the state of Maharashtra. Known as the abode of the great saint Sai Baba, Shirdi attracts a huge number of religious tourists every day. Shirdi has a lot of sightseeing places of religious importance, significant to the life of Sai Baba. One such place is Gurusthan, a holy site situated quite close to the Sai Baba temple. Gurusthan is known as the place where Sai Baba was first seen to the world as a 16 year old boy. There is a Neem tree here which is quite famous and is believed to have healing powers. This tree is significant as it provided shelter to Sai Baba and it is the very tree referred to in ‘Sai Satcharitra’. Renovated on 30th September 1941, Gurusthan contains a small shrine. On an elevated platform of this shrine, a portrait of Sai Baba is laid with a Shiva Linga and Nandi just in front of the portrait. Adjacent to it, a marble statue of Sai Baba is placed. Devotees throng this place in huge numbers, especially on Thursdays and Fridays and believe that if they burn incense here, their ailments will be cured. The Gurusthan temple doesn’t exist anymore as it was removed to make way for the Neem tree to grow. Gurusthan is also believed to be the place where Sai Baba’s Guru took Samadhi, hence the name Gurusthan. A trip to Shirdi is incomplete without visiting the holy places significant to the life of Sai Baba. Gurusthan is definitely such a place which is very important as the world came to know of him at this very place.The spot where a 16 year old child ascetic was first seen meditating under a Neem tree is definitely a must visit place for all the ardent followers of Sai Baba. The peaceful atmosphere around will definitely make Sai Baba feel nearer to your soul.

Dwarkamai Shirdi

Dwarkamai is known as the heart of Shirdi as devotees call him God on Earth. 2. Dwarkamai is a two levelled structure. The first level consists of two rooms is the sketch of Sai baba and a huge stone on which he used to sit and the Second is the room which has the planquin. Shirdi is a major pilgrimage center visited by a large number of religious tourists each day. It is known as the home of the great saint - Sai Baba. Shirdi has a lot of sightseeing places of religious importance significant to the life of Sai Baba. One such place is Dwarkamai mosque, situated on the right of the entrance of Sai Baba samadhi mandir. Dwarkamai was the dwelling place of Sai Baba for 60 years. Once a ruined and abandoned building, Dwarkamai is now considered as a holy place with hordes of tourists visiting this place every day. It is the very place where Sai Baba used to listen to the worries of distressed people and solve their woes with his blessings. Dwarkamai is divided into two levels. First level contains a portrait of Sai Baba and a big stone on which Sai Baba used to sit. This level has two rooms - one containing a chariot and another a palki. Just in front of the room where chariot is kept, there is a small temple with a saffron flag flying over it. The second level has a square stool made of stone used by Sai Baba for taking a bath. This level also contains the grinding stone and the vessel used by Sai Baba for keeping his Bhiksha. The oil paintings of Sai Baba are a major attraction of Dwarkamai. Dwarkamai houses the sacred fire ‘Dhuni’ lit by Sai Baba 100 years ago which is kept alive till date. The ash from the fire known as ’Udhi’ is considered sacred by the devotees and is known to have healing powers.

Lendi Baug Shirdi

Shirdi is one of the most visited pilgrimage center in India, known as the dwelling place of the great saint of late 19th century - Sai Baba. There are a number of sightseeing places in Shirdi along with the famous Sai Baba temple. One such popular place, widely visited by the tourists coming to Shirdi, is a beautiful garden situated on the Shirdi - Manmad highway known as Lendi Baug. Located close to Gurusthan, another popular tourist spot in Shirdi, Lendi Baug is a place of great religious importance. It got its name from a drain named “Lendi”, which used to flow there earlier. Lendi Baug is the place where Sai Baba used to go for a stroll in the mornings and afternoons each day and water the plants in the garden. He used to relax under a Neem tree located here. Lendi Baug houses the ‘Deep griha’, constructed in marble stone in which the sacred oil lamp known as ‘Nanda deep’ burns continuously till date. The deep is enclosed in a glass box to keep it burning all the time. There is also a Peepal tree adjacent to the Deep griha. A small Datta Mandir is situated in Lendi Baug with a marble statue of Datta. Lendi Baug also houses the samadhi of Sai Baba’s beloved horse Shyam Sunder. The well dug by Baba known as ‘Baba’s Shivdi’ can also be seen here.
